The Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Board of Education voted last week to request proposals from outside firms to aid in the search for the district’s next superintendent.
The move follows Superintendent Neil Pedersen’s July announcement that he will retire at the end of next June. The board will issue a request for proposals and hear from firms over the next few months, with a goal of having a firm selected by the end of the calendar year.
Board members decided against conducting the search on their own, saying they did not think they were qualified to do so and that district staff did not have the time. The board also decided not to use the N.C. School Board Association, though it has conducted many superintendent searches across North Carolina.
