Orange County Justice United and the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce join together in asking your support this Election Day for the proposed quarter-cent sales-tax increase. This partnership of community organizations, congregations and business leaders came together because we see the sales-tax referendum as an opportunity for Orange County to grow in the right direction.
The proposed sales-tax increase will expand our county infrastructure to long-identified economic-development districts. We see this as doing more than helping attract businesses to Orange County and growing our commercial tax base. Support from the sales tax would also provide much-needed funding for Justice United priorities (education, economic development, emergency services and sewer infrastructure for rural Orange County).
There’s a lot our county can accomplish when organizations like ours work together on common solutions. This Saturday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., leaders will gather at the parking lot of United Church of Chapel Hill for our Souls to the Polls rally. We will all walk to the Seymour Senior Center to vote. Please join with us, and when you vote, please vote for the County Sales and Use Tax.
