As of last Monday, the town of Hillsborough has started collecting its fallen leaves. The leaf vacuum truck will operate weekdays through Feb. 28, except on town-observed holidays. The schedule for the collection of loose leaves will follow the same schedule as the collection of garbage.
Town officials ask that citizens place fallen leaves free of limbs and debris within four feet of the curb for collection and keep their leaf piles from blocking storm drains, sidewalks and fire hydrants.
Residents are allowed to collect leaves with biodegradable bags, but households are limited to a collection of 10 bags per week.
The town will deliver the leaves to citizens in and around the Hillsborough area who would like them for mulch or compost. The minimum amount of leaves the town will deliver is 10 cubic yards and the area where the leaves are to be dumped must be accessible by a large truck.
For more information or to request a delivery of leaves, contact public works supervisor Ken Hines at 732-1270, ext. 78.
