Letter: Foraging options

Posted on December 16, 2010December 16, 2010 by Staff

It’s sad that Mr. Ken Moore (“Bringing evergreens indoors,” The Carrboro Citizen, 12/9/10) takes unwarranted and cheap shots at “protective landowners and deer hunters” for his self-perceived inability to easily and safely collect a few holly branches from the local woods like in days of old. The areas within and surrounding Carrboro are blessed with countless locations where Mr. Moore can enter without trespassing and leave without his fear of encountering hunters. Mr. Moore should know that his foraging options expand exponentially if he simply asks permission to walk private land or if he walks all public game-land areas on Sunday, when hunting is prohibited. Better still, Mr. Moore might even consider advocating that fortunate folks grow their own holly on their own property and pick the branches whenever they choose. His article and photos are otherwise interesting and informative.
