Kleinschmidt, Medlin visit CHHS

Posted on January 12, 2011 by Staff

Chapel Hill Mayor Mark Kleinschmidt and UNC Student Body President Hogan Medlin visited Chapel Hill High School on Friday as part of a national commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the inauguration of President John F. Kennedy.

The United States Conference of Mayors organized the event, entitled “JFK 50th: Mayors Ask What Youth Can Do.” Kleinschmidt and Medlin visited the fourth-period civics and economics class taught by Tom Greene.

Mayors across the country were encouraged to visit a middle or high school classroom to discuss their paths to public service and why it is important for young people to be engaged in their communities. Each mayor was asked to invite a leader under the age of 30 to discuss his or her work for the community.
