CHCCS teachers achieve national certification

Twenty-six Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools teachers were awarded National Board for Professional Teaching Standards certification in their fields during the 2009-10 certification cycle.

The teachers are: April Anderson, Seawell Elementary; Karla Boreika, itinerant resource teacher; Alvinia Boyd, Phillips Middle; Alice Bryan, itinerant resource teacher; Kathryn Cole, Frank Porter Graham Elementary; Sharla Coleman, Scroggs Elementary; Tamara Edmonds, Scroggs Elementary; Ryan Ellefsan, East Chapel Hill High; Amy Emenwein, East Chapel Hill High; Phyllis Farlow, Culbreth Middle; Cynthia Greenert, Ephesus Elementary; Julian Grimm, Phillips Middle; Hans Hiemstra, East Chapel Hill High; Karen Jeremiah, Scroggs Elementary; Kimberly Jones, Chapel Hill High; Rebecca Norris, Scroggs Elementary; Audrey Poindexter, Frank Porter Graham Elementary; Christina Royster, Rashkis Elementary; Kelly Sears, Smith Middle; Patrick “Brian” Schultz, East Chapel Hill High; Steve Simmons, Estes Hills Elementary; Rita Singh, Scroggs Elementary; Sheila Singh, Ephesus Elementary; Barbara Smith, Chapel Hill High; Tatiana Treml, itinerant resource teacher; and Megan Webb, Smith Middle.

In North Carolina, NBPTS certified teachers receive a 12 percent raise. Since the process began in 1996, 227 district teachers have earned national certification.
