Mary Andrews of Estes Hills Elementary School will receive the James B. Hunt Jr. Celebrate Literacy Award for her project “READ2ME: Tailgate Stories.â€
The program has been funded with a grant from the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Public School Foundation. The program’s purpose is to reach out to low-income neighborhoods during the summer months with literacy activities. Last summer nearly 500 children, 100 parents and 100 volunteer readers took part in the program.
The award ceremony will be held at the Raleigh Convention Center on Tuesday.
