Letter: Above and beyond

Posted on July 14, 2011July 14, 2011 by Staff

My family has always enjoyed going to the Carrboro Branch Library. It is such a cozy, friendly place, where patrons feel right at home. Last summer, I visited the library with large groups of children from a local neighborhood and the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful as we flooded in weekly to check out books. Recently, some of those same staff members went above and beyond even their usual graciousness and visited a neighborhood in Carrboro, Abbey Court Condominiums, to invite and encourage parents and children to sign up for library cards. Some of the adults in this neighborhood are not fluent in English, so a staff member who speaks Spanish came to assist with communication and filling out forms. The branch librarian, who so wonderfully welcomed the children last summer, also came with a third staff member whose own children made a beautiful, colorful sign, and they all personally invited families to come and enjoy all that the library has to offer. They even brought bus schedules to show patrons how to reach the library on the public buses! Thank you, Anne, Lisa, Vanessa and Orange County commissioners. We are fortunate to have such a wonderful public library in our community, and we are even more fortunate that the staff makes the library a true community treasure.
