Please join me in voting for Kris Castellano for Chapel Hill-Carrboro Board of Education. Kris has a proven decade-long commitment to volunteering in our local schools, from the classroom level to district-wide committee work. For eight years, she has steadfastly served on School Improvement Teams (SIT), chairing the committees and serving as liaison to the district from the schools she represents. She has been an instrumental champion for the dual-language program – acknowledging the importance of foreign-language study as a tool for student success.
By serving on many district committees, Kris has gained an understanding of the complex processes involved in establishing school-district policies. Her experience on district committees will be an asset in this year of transitioning the first newly hired superintendent in two decades. In this year of change, Kris’ knowledge and hands-on experience in the district will be essential to serving on the board of education.
Kris is committed to improving upon and creating effective communication channels between all students, teachers, administrators and parents. She strongly believes that engaging in open dialogue is what it will take to move the district closer to its goals. She has a cooperative spirit, a talent for problem solving, a concerned ear for listening and a resourcefulness that she will use to seek answers to difficult issues and questions.
With three children currently enrolled in the district’s schools, Kris has a broad view of the issues. Above all, it is her extensive volunteer experience that gives her a comprehensive understanding of the needs of the student population at large. It is clear to me that Kris will add a new level of commitment, a fresh take on communication and a movement toward the goal of academic and social growth for every student.
Please join me by casting your vote for a dedicated, experienced and knowledgeable parent volunteer. Vote for Kris Castellano for Chapel Hill-Carrboro Board of Education on Nov. 8.
