At the Oct. 26 meeting, the Chapel Hill Town Council voted to approve the closure of the Dawson Place right-of-way located off west Rosemary Street.Â
Larry Short, who owns property at 333. W. Rosemary St., submitted the request to the town so that he could begin to redevelop the property for retail, commercial and residential use.
The town council had already postponed voting on the closure at their Oct. 10 meeting, due to council members’ confusion about the intent of the closure and the lack of communication between Short and surrounding business owners.
The town council voted to allow the closure of the Dawson Place right-of-way, but only after a new public easement to replace Dawson Place has been built and dedicated.
