In the mayoral election, incumbent Randolph Voller won with 516 votes, or 53.86 percent, to Jim Nass’ 437 votes, or 45.62 percent.
For town commissioner, Bett Wilson Foley was elected with 530 votes, or 21.74 percent, along with fellow newcomers Beth Turner, with 501 votes (20.55), and J.A. Farrell, with 446 votes (18.29).
Incumbent Clinton Bryan finished with 395 votes (16.20); John Clifford earned 224 votes (9.19); Ray Kelley, 214 votes (8.78); Chris Grulke, 82 votes (3.36); and Jeremy Shaffer, 38 votes (1.56).
Voller said he felt that democracy had won in Pittsboro.
“All of the candidates ran issue-oriented campaigns with a positive focus on the town and its future,†he said. “Although it is tough for me to see anyone lose, I am happy for the new town commissioners. The town and its citizens have a bright future.â€
“The number of candidates who stepped up to run for Pittsboro town board and the high percentage of voters who turned out is such a positive reflection of our community,†said Foley. “I admire the integrity of the candidates who all ran positive campaigns that remained focused on the issues.â€
Turner was also impressed with the turnout.
“This town really cares,†she said. “I’m looking forward to serving for a town that I consider home and love.â€
“I wish the turnout had been a little better than what I’ve seen,†said newcomer Clifford, adding that he felt he’d run the best campaign he could.
“I thought it went well,†said Kelly, saying he felt the candidates had all acted professionally throughout the campaign. “I congratulate all the winners, and I know that Pittsboro is in good hands.â€
