Last weekend’s Piedmont Farm Tour brought as many as 10,000 visits to local farms. The tour, sponsored by Weaver Street Market and the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association, is the largest of its kind in the nation. The farm tour put 35 farms in five counties on display to carloads of “locavores†— local food eaters — to see the origins of their delights and learn about sustainable farming practices.
“Some of the world’s leading sustainable farmers are growing food for the Piedmont community,†said Roland McReynolds, CFSA executive director.
The tour is an educational event and fundraiser for CFSA, a 26-year-old a nonprofit organization that educates and organizes farmers and consumers to build a sustainable food system for the Carolinas.
