Pauli Murray Awards

The Orange County Human Relations Commission hosted the Pauli Murray Human Relations Awards Ceremony on Sunday at the Central Orange Senior Center Ballroom in Hillsborough. This year’s ceremony featured musical entertainment, poetic recitals by the Sacrificial Poets, the winners of the Human Rights Student Essay Contest reading their winning essays and the recognition of the recipients of the Pauli Murray Human Relations Award.

Moore, who attends Chapel Hill High School, participated in the contest sponsored by the Orange County Board of County Commissioners and the Orange County Human Relations Commission.

Maggie West, (left) received the Pauli Murray individual award for her work with support circles for homeless people transitioning to sustainable housing. Joseph DeVito (center) won the youth award for his countless hours of service through the Appalachian Service Project. Turner Prickett (right) accepted the award on behalf of Chapel Hill Rehabilitation and Healthcare, which was recognized for its transformation into a healthy, vibrant residence for seniors with a dynamic activities program.
