German teacher honored

Marilyn Metzler, a German teacher at Chapel Hill High, was honored by one of her former students with the Stanford University J.E. Wallace Sterling Award for Scholastic Achievement.

Otis Reid, who graduated from CHHS in 2008, will be graduating from Stanford University in June and recognized Metzler as the teacher who made a major difference on his educational career. Reid earned the J.E. Wallace Sterling Award as one of the top 25 students in the senior class based on overall academic performance. As a part of the recognition award, Reid was able to invite one secondary-school teacher who he felt influenced his educational career.

Metzler will be retiring at the end of this school year after 34v years in the classroom.
