Wastewater spill at Bolin Creek

Posted on September 13, 2012 by Staff

On Sept. 7, OWASA personnel responded to a spill of untreated wastewater from a damaged sewer near Ridgefield Apartments at Bolin Creek, which released over an estimated 500 gallons into the creek.

The spill was reported at 2:45 p.m. and was stopped at 4:10 p.m. by using a portable pump and temporary pipe to carry wastewater over Bolin Creek to a manhole downstream.

OWASA believes the spill was caused due to flash flooding and debris building up in Bolin Creek that dislodged a support pier and the sewer, causing the pipe to break open.
