In Carrboro, the Fourth of July, our Independence Day, is an all-day party. Parade events kick off at 9:30 a.m. with music by Tim Stambaugh & Friends on the Weaver Street Lawn. Designing and decorating booths including face painting, hat making, bike decoration and registration for costume contests start at 10:00. Contest winners are chosen and the parade begins rolling down Weaver Street at 11:00.
Meanwhile, music starts at 10:30 a.m. at Town Hall with the Village Band. Following that are performances that include The Bolin Creek Harmony Boys, the Cane Creek Cloggers and Great Big Gone. Bill Kirchen, formerly of Commander Cody and a Music Assocation Hall of Famer, will unleash his guitar from noon until 2:00. Events for kids and families last until 3:00 and include clowns, a magic show, a water balloon toss, a bounce house, an obstacle course and more.
And, once it gets dark …
See the fireworks at Kenan Memorial Stadium! Doors open at 7:00 p.m. and Bugs Bunny and the Tasmanian Devil will greet the first 3,000 people with glow necklaces. A clown and face painters will keep the kids happy until music starts at 8:00 p.m. with Mark Roberts and the Breeze. The fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m., weather permitting. Parking is available on South Campus at the Craige, Dogwood and Cardinal parking decks. Alcohol and other outside food and containers are not allowed, but concession stands will offer food and soft drinks.
