Downtown Chapel Hill will host Locally Grown, an event celebrating downtown Chapel Hill and Orange County, on Fridays July 25 and Aug. 22 from 7 to 9 p.m. Downtown visitors can support local business, eat local food and hear local music.
Live music will rock down on the east side from 7 to 10:30 on top of the Wallace Parking Deck at 150 East Rosemary St. Performing on July 25 are Joe Romeo & the Orange County Volunteers and Joceifus Rifle, with Today is Friday opening.
Along with the music will be an arts & crafts market and activities for kids, with Kidzu Children’s Museum, Active Living by Design and Ackland Arts Museum participating. A misting tent will keep listeners cool. Bring a folding chair to have a nice seat for the concerts.
Restaurants La Residence and Elaine’s will feature dishes prepared with ingredients from local producers, while the Carolina Inn and Franklin Hotel will feature bluegrass and jazz, respectively.
Glee Kids will give kids materials to decorate and color masks that will go on the store’s mannequins and the creators of the winning masks will receive gift certificates to the store.
Street performers will wander the West End from 6-8.
The Aug. 22 concert features Big Mama E & the Cool, Eric Sommer and Oscar Begat.
Locally Grown is presented by Chapel Hill Parks & Recreation and the Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership, along with 140 West Franklin, WCHL 1360 and Time Warner Cable.
