The Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Newcomer Center at Chapel Hill High School needs donations for the 30 students served by the program.
The Newcomer Center is designed to provide support to English language learners who have just arrived in this country as they prepare to transition into a regular classroom setting at the middle or high school level.
Items needed include grocery and clothing gift cards, children’s books, school supplies, new socks for boys and men, new underwear for boys or men in sizes 28-34, belts for boys in sizes 28-34 and toiletries.
According to Gloria Sanchez-Lane, family specialist at Chapel Hill High, many of the students are too old to qualify for other programs that would provide them with clothing and presents for the holidays.
To donate items, contact Sanchez-Lane at gsanchez-lane@chccs.k12.nc.us or 929-2106, ext. 1278.
