Obituary: Thomas Calvin McBroom

Thomas Calvin McBroom, 85, 1221 Schley Rd., Hurdle Mills, died peacefully in his some surrounded by his loving family Friday, December 19, 2008. He was born in Orange County and attended Hillsboro schools.

He worked on the family farm before entering the US Navy during WWII. Upon concluding his service he returned to the family farm and with his brother, Vance, owned and operated McBroom Brothers Sawmill for many years. Later he was employed at Hines Liner Company. Mr. McBroom was a member of Lawrence Road Baptist Church. He loved the Lord, his family, land and nature.

Surviving are his wife, Nola K. McBroom; his daughter, Nancy McBroom, Hurdle Mills; his son, Ralph McBroom (Casandra), Hillsborough; his sister, Frances Fox, Mebane; two brothers: Marvin McBroom and Robert McBroom (Lucy), both of Mebane; grandchildren: Beverly Clark (Jason), Kevin McBroom, and Franklin Moore (Emily); and great grandson, Griffin Clark. He was predeceased by his daughter, Kathy McBroom, two brothers: Vance McBroom and Samuel McBroom; and his sister, Marie Shanklin.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM Monday in Walker’s Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Lonnie Bell. Burial will be in Little River Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-5 PM Sunday in Walker’s Funeral Home.

‘In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to Lawrence Rd. Baptist Church Debt Retirement Fund and/or Duke Hospice.
