School Brief: Students travel to Dominica

Posted on January 15, 2009 by Staff

Nine eighth-grade students from Culbreth Middle School’s Global Connections class accompanied teacher Gretchen Bade to Dominica in the Lesser Antilles over the winter break to perform service projects for the Kalinago people.

While in Dominica, the students partnered with a local youth group in the village of Sineku to perform construction work on an elderly man’s home, run a reading camp for children and complete a river clean-up project.

The Global Connections class is an extension of an elective created last year when Bade was accepted into Oprah Winfrey’s O Ambassador Program.
