Helen Luetta Siems Slingerland

Helen L. Slingerland, 80, entered into Glory of her Lord on March, 2009. She died from complications following surgery after gallantly fighting and surviving cancer for ten years. She was born March 20, 1929 in Roselle, IL to Henry Siems and Emma Lichthardt Siems. She is predeceased by her loving husband, Walter R. Slingerland, Jr.

She is survived by her daughters, Mary Helen Owens of Mebane and Lisa Slingerland Wallis of Shanghai, China; sons-in-law, Robert E. Owens and Mark S. Wallis; grandchildren, Sarah K. Owens, Mark S. Wallis II and Andrew W. Wallis.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Worship Center, 227 E. Rosemary St., Chapel Hill, 27514. Rev. David Hood will officiate. Interment will be in Schaumburg, IL at St. Peter Lutheran Church cemetery.

Helen and Walter lived in Schaumburg, IL until retiring to Ft. Myers Beach and Naples, FL. They relocated to The Cedars of Chapel Hill in 2004.
The family expresses deepest gratitude and appreciation to the Duke University Hospital doctors, nurses and staff for their compassionate and diligent care.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Arrangements by Walkers Funeral Home, (919) 942-3861.
