The steering committee of United with the Northside Community Now (UNC-NOW) will host a community meeting tonight (Thursday) to push for action on points set forth earlier this month in their open letter to the Town of Chapel Hill, the Greenbridge partners and community members.
According to a UNC-NOW press release, the group hopes to “engage attendees in a constructive conversation on how we can move forward collectively to ensure that social equity becomes an equal leg of the triple bottom line model for development set forth by the Town and Greenbridge.â€
Tensions between residents and the Greenbridge developers rose recently after someone posing as a Greenbridge representative sent an email to members of the media that said the development would cease all sales of the property’s units. In addition, police recently discovered anti-Greenbridge graffiti on the Libba Cotton Bike Path.
The meeting will be the third Sustaining OurSelves meeting, organized by the NAACP, the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance and EmPOWERment Inc. It will be held at St. Joseph’s CME Church at 510 W. Rosemary St.
