Former police chief heads to Spring Lake

Posted on May 28, 2009 by Staff

Gregg Jarvies, former police chief of the Chapel Hill Police Department, has been hired as interim police chief of the Spring Lake Police Department to help restore the department’s credibility following recent criminal charges against two of its officers.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office recently took control of the police department after two of its senior officers were indicted.

One officer allegedly participated in a home invasion, while another allegedly stole money from the department’s evidence room. The department’s chief resigned on May 5.

Jarvies retired in 2007 after seven years as chief of the Chapel Hill Police. He will assist Spring Lake in assessing all of its employees, finding a permanent chief and restoring public confidence in the department.
