East Chapel Hill High School has been selected as one of 20 schools in Wake, Durham, Orange, Harnett, Johnston and Chatham counties to take part in the “Farm Animal Frenzy†sculpture contest at the North Carolina State Fair.
This year’s contest has “gone green.†Each participating school will receive a wooden sawhorse to use as a frame to paint, craft and decorate into the form of an environmentally conscious farm animal. Recycled materials will be used and participating schools have received $500 to offset the costs. The theme for this year’s contest is “A Whole Lotta Happy.â€
The grand prize winner will receive $1,000; second place, $750; and third, $500.
You can follow the progress of area schools on a special website devoted to the contest, farmanimalfrenzy.com. Online voting for a People’s Choice award will begin Oct. 15. The judges’ selection will be announced Oct. 12 at the N.C. State Fair Press Luncheon
