Teacher featured in book

Posted on September 17, 2009 by Staff

Corey Waters, a teacher at Chapel Hill High School, has contributed a chapter in a newly released book titled Teaching Hope: Stories from The Freedom Writers Teachers and Erin Gruwell.

Waters is one of two North Carolina authors contributing stories about their triumphs, struggles and anticipations in and outside the classroom regarding their students’ various struggles. The book delves into the testimonies of educators worldwide to reveal stories of how they go above and beyond their call of duty to help students succeed.

Waters teaches history andAVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) at CHHS. He has been an educator for 10 years and was selected in 2007 as North Carolina’s first Freedom Writer Teacher. He attended Gruwell’s Freedom Writer Teacher Institute to learn practices to incorporate into his classroom and to inspire his students.
