The Glen Lennox Neighborhood Conservation District (NCD) process officially entered phase two at the March 22 Chapel Hill Town Council meeting, when council members unanimously approved a resolution to set up a committee to come up with some guidelines for a Glen Lennox NCD.

The 17-member committee will consist of: two planning board members, who will serve as co-chairs; three Glen Lennox tenants; three property owners of homes on Flemington Road, Hayes Road, Rogerson Drive and Flemington Drive; three representatives of Grubb Properties; three at-large members; one commercial tenant of Glen Lennox; one representative of the Church of the Holy Family; and one representative from an existing Chapel Hill NCD.

The task force will start meeting in June and will report back to the council in June 2011.

To apply for a seat on the committee, download an application at townofchapelhill.org/Modules/ShowDocument.aspx?documentid=2623 and email it to clerk@townofchapelhill.org or fax it to 967-8406. For more detailed instructions, visit townofchapelhill.org/index.aspx?page=117 and follow the link marked “Glen Lennox NCD Development Cmte.”

To guarantee consideration for a spot on the committee, applications must be received by noon on April 19. The council will continue to receive applications until April 26, but there is no guarantee that they will be considered for the May 10 meeting because town staff has to verify each applicant’s eligibility.

This is some bureaucrat’s way of creating a year-long delay, meanwhile these unsightly homes remain undemolished.
