Taheri-Azar pleads guilty in pit attack
Mohammed Taheri-Azar, who drove a rented SUV into a crowd of people in the Pit on the UNC campus in March 2006, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to nine counts of attempted first-degree murder. He faces 21 to 33 years in prison, and will be sentenced the morning of August 26.

Community Brief: Violence prevention training
The Family Violence Prevention Center of Orange County is seeking volunteers for the agency’s fall volunteer training. The training, which will begin Sept. 9, teaches skills to assist victims of domestic violence as hotline advocates, child-care providers, court advocates and community educators.

School Brief: Lunch cost rises
As a result of rising food and fuel costs, meal prices will increase this year in Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools cafeterias. Price increases do not affect students who receive free and reduced price meal benefits. Breakfast prices increased by five cents, to $1.10 for students and $1.55 for adults.
