Seawell students win Scrabble tournament

Seawell Elementary School fifth-grade students Jeffrey He and Edward Zhuang won the North Carolina School Scrabble Tournament on Feb. 28. Smith Middle School seventh-graders Josh Hennen and Christopher Change earned second place, while Seawell fifth-graders Amalan Iyengar and Liam Hopfensberger came in third.

Culbreth students raise $1,000 for international charity

Culbreth Middle School students recently raised $1,000 for the International Justice Mission through a coin drive, “Loose Change to Loosen Chains.” The International Justice Mission fights childhood slavery in third-world countries. The student chapter of the organization conducted the coin drive. Students presented a check to the organization during a special ceremony last week.
