Hillsborough seeks volunteers
To prepare for the Nash Street sidewalk project, the Town of Hillsborough is generating a list of volunteers available to help local property owners remove items like small brick or stone driveway pillars, flowers or other landscaping from rights-of-way. This may be a good volunteer project for a scout troop, church, organization or business.
Chatham invites input
The Chatham County Board of Commissioners invites residents interested in providing input on a draft joint land-use plan with the Town of Cary to attend a community meeting on Monday, Aug. 10 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The meeting will be held in the multipurpose room at North Chatham Elementary School. Local tiger passes away
Carnivore Preservation Trust (CPT) announced that Romeo the tiger passed away last Monday. Romeo’s health had been declining for a couple of months as a result of a progressive neurological disease, making it increasingly difficult for him to control his hind legs. For his comfort, he was removed from the tour route two weeks ago.
Festifall deadline extended
The postmark deadline for applications for participation in Festifall, Chapel Hill’s celebration of local art and artisans, has been extended to July 31. Family triathlon
The Swim for Smiles Foundation will be holding its first family triathlon July 26 at 8 a.m. at Southern Village. In addition to individual participants, there will be adult-kid relay teams, all of whom will be swimming, biking and running to raise money for the N.C. Children’s Hospital.
