Piedmont Health Services to receive $1.5 million in stimulus money
By Kirk Ross Staff Writer Carrboro-based Piedmont Health Services will receive $1,531,035 from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The funds are part of $20 million in stimulus money for community health centers in North Carolina announced last week by the office of U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan.
New landfill rules
As of July 27, free landfill permits will no longer be issued by Orange County. Permits issued prior to that date must be used on or before July 25. Chapel Hill Public Library new hours
The Chapel Hill Public Library has changed its hours to open one hour earlier on three weekday mornings and close three hours earlier on Sundays. The new schedule also reinstates Thursday evening open hours that were eliminated in 2008.

Dog park closure

To encourage folks worried about parking to venture downtown, Chapel Hill has implemented a Courtesy Ticket program. Under the program, once per calendar year, if you receive a citation for a parking meter violation your citation will be dismissed. The town’s Parking Services Division began issuing Courtesy Tickets on July 1.
