McDougle Middle School teacher Janet Ploghoft was named a 2008 Teacher of Excellence by the Exceptional Children Division of the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. She was recognized last month at an awards ceremony at the Koury Convention Center in Greensboro.

Schools fail reading standards

Four Chapel Hill-Carrboro schools failed to meet adequate yearly progress (AYP) standards in reading this year. Frank Porter Graham Elementary School, McDougle Elementary School, McDougle Middle School and East Chapel Hill High School did not meet AYP, but will not face No Child Left Behind sanctions because they met AYP last year.
