Hello,

Concerning Vocabulary...

I like this aproach, believing that it lends to a greater understanding of the language while you build vocab. I am going through Robert E. Van Voorst's "Building Your New Testament Greek Vocabulary" where words are listed according to cognate. Understanding the cognate improves memorization of other words that are associated.

With this I also like the understanding that David Alan Black gives in "Linguistics for students of New Testament Greek". I find it helpful in understanding the morphemes when it comes to vocabulary. Once a few morphemes are packed away in your memory data-base, you find that you "all of a sudden" know thirty words. Dr. Black gives the example of the stem/root DIK, by sandwiching it with other morphemes. This being a tool for memorization should be quite easy for students due to the similar understanding of parsing verbs, I think it is basically the same approach.

Besides I think understanding Linguistics keeps the mind thinking along the right path for "soon to be exegetes."
