Thanks Jim. It's funny that my wife just got done telling me the same thing
about 'confidence'. On TDNT is that Kittel's? If so I have the whole set
at the office, but am at home today. I'll check it next time I'm at work.
I'll be curious to see the article on AGAPH. I really like Spicq's article
on AGAPH that someone pointed out to me via this list several years ago, but
it's been awhile since I've read that as well. I just want to try to
capture the warmth of AGAPH with a leaning towards action...which is why I
chose affection. Thanks for the insight.
David

I'm not sure "confidence" carries the full weight of "pistis". Have you
at hand a copy of TDNT? The article on the "pistis" group is excellent
in terms of offering assistance in just the task you are undertaking.
When I hear "confidence" I think "here's somebody I can tell a secret to
who won't blab it". "Pistis" is a bit different. I would try "complete
trust".
"master" i like. "Lord" is pretty much empty of meaning to we moderns.
Likewise, your rendering of "agape" with "affection" seems a weakening
of the intention. "agape" isn't mere affection. Indeed, it surpasses
that by 10 fold. And again, TDNT is terribly helpful with offering a
semantic field that will assist you. I would suggest something along
the lines of "unreserved love".
"devoted followers" - I like that too. That gets to the very heart of
"agious".
Best
Jim
