My two cents:  Small nurseries also get sucked into the product
proliferiation trap.  I may have my statistics cross-threaded, but if my
back-of-envelop calculations are correct you almost double the amount of
stock you eat(i.e., did not sell) or end-up sold-out (could have sold if
you had them) for each quadrupling of offerings.  So BearCreek hurt
themselves by offering so many cultivars combined with so many
rootstock.  Rocky Meadow's approach is much better from an inventory
standpoint.  Offer everything in a mid-size rootstock.  Include a more
vigorous choice for smaller, more precocious cultivars and a smaller
rootstock for the big, gangly cultivars.
