The  Nik  Turner  Interviews

It was a real pleasure seeing Nik again. He's one of the few people I've photographed who is aware that there is a person behind the camera, it's also true that a lot of photographers forget that there is a person behind the image they're capturing, and it shows. Compare this with the photo I did 25 years ago for the X In Search of Space album sleeve and you may see what I mean. Above all it was wonderful to see Nik again after so long as two old friends. We'd both taken different paths and had varying degrees of luck, felt different pleasures and pains, but at the end of the day we're just two ageing hippies doing what we best know how. We did it then because we believed in it and I don't think that's changed much, maybe we're a little less innocent now, but I know we're still doing what we do because we enjoy it.

"Even our computers no longer speak with any certainty of the past. But still we journey on through space, in search of the present, leaving a trail of abandoned futures in our wake."
- from the Hawkwind Log 1971

"What about these strange people that work for you Nik?... Moose, $id?"

"They just fell out of a Raymond Chandler book I was reading one day, they've been here ever since, there are a few more around somewhere. They're very useful sometimes..."

"Come round here a moment Phil, there's a spot near these bushes with the most amazing acoustics, listen to this...."
