His Lordship personally accompanied us to our rooms for the night, showing us on the way a portrait of his parents by a famous painter of royalty around which he himself had painted in relief the figures of two pigs or boars, their elongated snouts encircling his beloved mater and pater... weird! Before arriving at the part of the house where we were to sleep we were shown "The Kama Sutra Room". Traditionally these ancestral homes had secret passageways and hidden doors, The "Kama Sutra Room" was accessible only via one of these doors and was decorated entirely with wall-paintings, done by himself, depicting couples and groups in some of the many and varied positions shown in that famous book. The bed was a huge four-poster with a mirror beneath the canopy, it was here one imagined, Her Ladyship or perhaps a lover awaited His Lordship's pleasure. We went to our more modest but none the less entirely adecuate accommodation and slept the sleep of the stoned innocents. |
