Through the collaborations of Club Boulevard Staff and Parents and Communities
in Schools, our Family Resource Center was opened in the Spring of 1997.
The role of the Family Resource Center has been to link and connect
our families to the school in a way that meets the family and student needs.
The Center's goals are to help students as part of the global community
become life long learners and help their families be a part of their children's
lives in meaningful ways.
The Center has an active Advisory Board that is comprised of Club Boulevard
Staff and parents. The Advisory Board has met on a monthly basis to plan
the Center's Events and Activities that are set at the End-of- the- School
Year Retreat.
The Center has received its funding from CIS, Americorp Grant, Children's
Trust Fund, and local philanthropists. For two years the Center had a Director
from an Americorp Volunteer Grant.
The Director solicited, trained and scheduled volunteers from local businesses,
Duke University Learning in Retirement Center, Duke University sororities
and fraternities, the general community and our own parents. For the past
three years we have had approximately 85 volunteers in our school on a
weekly basis. The volunteers have helped the staff meet the academic needs
of our students through their individual tutoring. A wonderful by-product
of this relationship is the friendships and mentoring relationships that
are developed over the period of the school year. In some instances, some
volunteers have worked with the same students for 2 or 3 years.
The Center , also, plans other activities and events to involve are parents
and students:

your Child with Homework, Help Your Child Deal With Anger
