[Fishing fleet of Ostend]

Ostend is one of the largest fishing harbors in Belgium.

Harbor facilities

Today, Ostend has nearly nothing left of it's rich fishing history. We still have our fishmine, our slipway and a couple of docks:

Maritime heritage

Besides one preserved dry-docked Icelandic trawler, we don't have much. Many fishing communities, like Fleetwood, Grimsby or Hull have a maritime museum, that proudly presents their rich culture. I believe Ostend should have one as well!

O.129 Amandine

See: website Amandine (external link)

The O.129 Amandine is the last trawler that sailed from Ostend to Iceland. Built in 1960 at the shipyard Panesi, she sailed until 1995. Coming from Iceland, she arrives in ostend on 3th April 1995.

It has taken more then five year and a lot of money before she was restored and used as a museum, but she is worth it.
