[François Musin]

28th July 2007: Information on this is being updated

François Musin in the Vuurtorendok, 2003The O.305 François Musin is the last of her kind... This Icelandic trawler was built in 1948 at the shipyard Beliard & Crighton in Ostend for the N.V. Motorvisserij. During her short career, she became a kind of a legend. This trawler had once a woman dressed as man aboard, a fire destroyed the bridge just before she left Ostend bound for Africa, ....

Since 1986 the vessel had been waiting in a dock, nearly abandoned until in 1999 she was bought by a Alex Quienen. Together with him, I worked from 2000 till 2005 to restore the ship. She has now been sold again to an organisation who will finish the preservation of this remarkable ship. This organisation, WerkvormM helps people with no job back into society by giving them a decent training.

[Site]

This site tells the story of the François Musin. You will also find related information and stories. These 'extras' will help you creating an idea of how the Ostend fishing community was formed and organized.

At this moment, the site is being redesigned. Some links may not be working yet. If you have further information on this boat, feel free to contact me!
