The Carrboro Recreation and Parks Department is currently accepting volunteer coachesâ€™ applications for the 2007 – 2008 Youth Basketball Program. Coaches must exhibit the ability to organize practices and communicate effectively with players, parents and Recreation Department staff. They must also exhibit the ability to teach proper playing skills and fundamentals, proper sportsmanship, and provide an enjoyable atmosphere at practices and games. The Carrboro Recreation and Parks Department will be sponsoring a Fall Baseball Program for participants 6-15 years old as of October 15, 2007. Registration openings remain in the 6-8, 11-12 and 13-15 age groups and take place at the Recreation Department, 100 N. Greensboro St. Carrboro. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30am-5pm.Â The fee is $52 for Orange County residents, $85 for out-of-county residents. The Carrboro Recreation & Parks Department is sponsoring C.L.A.S.S. (Children Learning Athletic Sports Skills) soccer for kids and their parents. The program is designed for children 4-6 years old as of the start of the class. The goal of the program is to introduce the fundamentals of soccer to the participant and parent. The instructor guides both the child and parent in understanding the skills of passing, dribbling, trapping and shooting. Parent and child will be encouraged to practice the skills learned at home. Parent participation is a major part of this program. The program will be held on Saturdays, 9:00am-10:00am, from September 8th to October 13th. The cost is $47 a child. Pre-registration is required and will begin Monday, May 7th at the Carrboro Recreation & Parks Department, 100 N. Greensboro St. Space is limited.
