Land & Table brief: OWASA lakes

Posted on September 11, 2008 by Staff

Tropical Storm Hanna raised OWASA’s lakes from 79 percent full on Friday to 95 percent full on Monday, well above normal for this time of year.

The Cane Creek Reservoir, the primary water source for the Chapel Hill-Carrboro community, rose from about five feet below full Friday to 13.5 inches below full Monday morning. University Lake was 4.75 inches below full on Friday and was overflowing Saturday. Based on water use in the last 30 days, OWASA has more than a year’s supply on hand.

Year-round water conservation requirements are in effect as they have been since the late May. The year-round restrictions are listed in their entirety in the Water Conservation Ordinance on the OWASA website at www.owasa.org/pages/conservation.html.
