The OWASA board of directors will discuss proposed changes to the water conservation requirements for OWASA customers tonight (Thursday) at 7 at the Chapel Hill Town Hall.
The OWASA board’s Natural Resources and Technical Systems Committee and OWASA staff developed the proposed changes in the late summer based on experiences from the 2007-08 drought and comments from customers. The proposed changes are intended to give customers more flexibility in the context of OWASA’s water-conservation rate structures, which include surcharges that go into effect during water shortages.
The proposed changes would allow greater flexibility for irrigation of public-purpose athletic and recreational fields, relaxed irrigation restrictions for non-turf vegetation and more.
The meeting is open to the public. It will be televised in Chapel Hill and Carrboro on cable channel 18. For more information about the proposed changes, visit www.owasa.org/Documents/Default.aspx?TYPE=BA or contact OWASA at 968-4421.
