Scott Adams made his way through Chapel Hill-Carrboro today for a quick rest in front Open Eye Cafe, where he was met by the cheering of his wife and son, along with another dozen or so sweaty supporters.
Adams is running across the state to raise money for cancer research. After a short embrace with his son and a quick, “I miss y’all,” he told the crowd of bystanders, “It was a little rough this morning–you all have no idea.” With an average temperature of 97 degrees–“a little rough” is an understatement.
Adams said that he’ll spend the night in his own bed tonight in Chapel Hill after a celebration at Tyler’s Restaurant tonight. He started the endeavor on May 27 in Murphy, N.C., and with about 40 miles ran each day, he plans to finish the 740 or so miles in Manteo June 13. By putting his passion for running and memories of those taken by cancer to use, Adams hopes to raise $25,000 for the American Cancer Society by the end of the run.
Adams’ son Tyler cheers him on.
