The word of the week is Hopscotch. Sure, it’s a child’s game, but more importantly it’s the Indy Weekly’s fantastic new music fest due to take the Triangle by storm this weekend. With a line-up of acts that includes Public Enemy, Panda Bear, Best Coast, Marissa Nadler, Broken Social Scene, Sharon Van Etten, Bear in Heaven, The Love Language, The Rosebuds, and No Age to just name a pitiful few, it promises to be an epic weekend of music. Look in this week’s Indy for a bigger preview of the fest including a suggested (slightly insane) itinerary drumming up by yours truly. Hope to see you there.

The Sonja Haynes Stone Center at UNC Chapel Hill will be showing a free screening of the independent documentary film “Beauty of the Fight” on Thursday, September 9 at 7:00pm.
The film captures the heart and soul of two of Panama’s most historic barrios as they face modern day struggles against poverty, urbanization and violence while attempting to maintain the dignity, joy and spirit of their communities.
The screening is part of the center’s ongoing Diaspora Festival of Black and Independent Film, which runs throughout the fall and is free and open to the public.
