Mason’s Apron may have been a band for little over a month, but that doesn’t mean these boys don’t know how to pick a pretty tune. Nor does it mean we’ll cut them any slack, see how Mr. Jeff Stickley handles the inquisition after the jump.
1. If your band were a pie, what kind would it be?
Chicken Pot Pie, because the ingredients are all very different and they combine to make the complete meal.
2. You’ve played together as friends for a long time, why start a band?
It gives you an excuse to hang out more and play out. Both of which are about as good as it gets!
3. Describe the last time you totally jammed out to a song
My brother burned me a CD with a bunch of old Bluegrass like The Country Gentlemen and The Stanley Brothers and I have been totally jamming out to it. Songs like “Redwood Hill,” “Katy Cline” and “How Mountain Girls Can Love.” Jamming out typically means blasting it in my car and trying to sing all the awesome baritone parts.

4. Who/what might be a few inspirations or influences that would really surprise people?
Old Gospel Hymns. I think that’s the first place I learned how awesome harmonies are. There’s nothing like singing along with a congregation of a few hundred people.
Also, the first three Green Day albums. The songs are all simple chord progressions, the lyrics are funny, the vocal melodies are catchy, the rhythm section drives and they’re a rock band with twangy guitar solos.
5. What did you dream of being when you were a kid? (how ’d that turn out?)
Something in me wants to say I dreamt of being a UNC basketball star. But I think a rock star was more realistic to me, even as a kid.
Well, my dream of being a basketball star never really panned out. As for the rock star dream, I’ve lost the star part. I just want to make music with people I love and not have to work a day job I don’t like.

Stroll over to Motorco this Sunday morning to see Mason’s Apron’s last Bloody Brunch residency performance. And by all means, give Jeff a high five when you see him!
