Gimme Five! Justin Williams of Twelve Thousand Armies

He may not be a decorated officer, but Justin Williams is master and commander of his own band of brothers, Twelve Thousand Armies.  Luckily, the lads (typically Josh Moore, Carter Gaj, Ryan Gustafson, Josh Pope, James Wallace, Jeff Crawford, Tom Simson, and sometimes Mark Simonsen) of his crew play with instruments, not guns, and are set to release a record, North Carolina, this spring.  But before Williams and co can get there, we figure it’s about time he face down the five.

1. If you band were a breakfast cereal, which would it be?
Not sure… What’s the cereal that’s best for you? Just kidding maybe some Food Lion knock off…

2. What instigated the choice of band name?
I used the phrase “Twelve Thousand Armies” in a song lyric from my old band The Talk and just liked the way it sounded as a band name. But i hate when it’s written out as a number. I guess i should have went with a different name?

3. Describe the pleasures/pressures of leading your own group.
I don’t know about “leading a group”? But it’s awesome to have the musicians i most respect playing my songs. As for pressure there is none, we either play  shows and record or we don’t.

4. Who/what might be a few inspirations or influences that would really surprise people?
Just all my homies!!! Dudes i grew up skating with, All the guys i’ve  played with through the years, Just life in general. I get stoked on so much stuff. But as for musical influences man there is just too much shit to list.

5. What did you dream of being when you were a kid? (how ’d that turn out?)
PRO SKATEBOARDER!!! It just wasn’t in the cards but i still skate everyday!!!
