This Snow Hill, NC native has made a name for herself as the first lady of Kooley High and as a solo artist, working at the right hand of mentor and hip hop mastermind 9th Wonder. Rapsody has a flow that won’t quit and a way with rhymes, but can this masterful emcee handle a round of five furious questions?
See for yourself after the jump!
1. If your music were a historic event, what would it be?
The Harlem Renaissance
2. What was the moment you realized music might work out as something more than a hobby?
September 2005, when 9th Wonder told me I was a star.
3. Describe your writing process.
I come up with a concept first most times, and other times I just write whatever comes to my mind. I plug the words into my cadence. I like to write in my blackberry in the dark, with a black light on, and the beat loud.
4. Who/what might be a few inspirations or influences that would really surprise people?
Hmm..that might surprise people? I’d say Legends of the Fall. One of my favorite movies. I fell in love with their respect of a culture.
5. What did you dream of being when you were a kid? (How ’d that turn out?)
I wanted to be a rapper, play ball at Duke University and then go to play in the WNBA. That was it. I wanted to be an emcee and a basketball player. I’m one for two. I’d say it is turning out as I always dreamed it would.
