Part of the newspaper-editing job involves sorting through an increasingly clogged email inbox to separate the clutter from the stuff that we believe Citizen readers might be interested in. I’m guessing those interests don’t include things like a $200 project management webinar or a press conference in Pennsylvania on Canadian homebuilding technology, but feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.
Yes, my favorite public-relaters are now able to reach me and thousands of other members of the media with a single email, the rest of us are able to keep track of college buddies via social networking without ever having to exchange a single word, and the mean-tweeters are boldly becoming more aggressive, thanks to the screen they’re hiding behind.
So this is a plea to come out from behind those computers. During the month of March, pick something awesome within these pages – be it tracking down a hawk, checking out Tennis’ show at Local 506 or reveling in St. Paddy’s Day celebrations – call that Facebook friend, and get out there and do it.
Take note, PR spammer from Michigan – Carrboro Citizen, The is not interested in your motorcycle show. But you know who might be? Your local newspaper. You should give them a call.
