Groundhog Day

mike.jpg

If you know Mike Hess, you know a real swell fellow. He did a litte work at Chapel Hill’s Town Hall yesterday.

From a town email:

The Manager’s Office is one of the busiest offices in Town Hall, and local citizens from all walks of life come daily to present their pressing concerns to Town Manager Roger L. Stancil. But the visitor who came around lunchtime on Thursday was unique – because he was a groundhog.

The furry fellow likely entered through an open door at the opposite side of the building where construction is occurring and scampered the entire length of the building until it arrived at the Manager’s Office. Stancil was not in his office at the time, and the visitor turned down an offer to meet with others on the Manager’s staff. He did say, however, that he was looking for someplace cool to chill out and that since he couldn’t see his shadow, he was predicting at least six more weeks of summer.

Orange County Animal Control Officer Michael Hess responded immediately, netted the groundhog, and later released it to a flowerbed on the building’s grounds.
