Gimme Five! Sara Bell of Shark Quest

Shark Quest has been hunting down melodies together since 1991. They’ve released five full lengths, scored a couple films, taken a six year hiatus, and been beckoned back due to popular demand at least twice–and all without singing a word! Suffice it to say, together (and individually) they’ve been a huge part of the local music movement over the past twenty years, but can one of thier own handle these five questions? Find out after the jump!

Gimme Five! Wesley Wolfe

Welsey Wolfe may have perfected the art of making his own records– down to writing the parts, playing the instruments, singing the words, recording it all AND cutting his own vinyl with a lathe in his personal studio— but that’s no guarantee he’ll survive this five question assault! Okay, anyone that DIY can probably handle the apocalypse with ease… but seeing as you’ll have to wait for that to happen, check out how he faces down our questions after the jump.

Gimme Five! Nick Driver

The short version of the story is that Nick Driver grew up on a farm in Zebulon, started a rock band in high school, trained classically (for guitar and vocals) in college, played hardcore for a spell, and then decided to scrap all the genre pretense and band histrionics for a more personal approach. Now lauded for his Americana, singer/songwriter feel, Driver’s recorded two records (2010’s Warm is Your Color and 2011’s A Kind of Love This World Could Never Burn) and toured the country sharing his music. This NC native is steady mastering the hustle, but can he answer our five questions? See for yourself after the jump!

Gimme Five! Jess Edison of Once and Future Kings

Drifting int he ether between psychedelic pop and indie rock, Once and Future Kings first drummed to life in a basement in East Nashville. Now stationed in Raleigh, lead singer/guitarist Jess Edison has seen the band’s evolution through more than a few line-ups, all the while striving to maintain the core sound. He’s certainly got a knack for resilience, but can Edison survive the five hardest questions in faux business? See for yourself after the jump.

Gimme Five! Wylie of Wylie Hunter and the Cazadores

“I’ve been looking for something real to believe in,” sings Wylie Hunter on “Get On Up!” the opening track on the Wylie Hunter and the Cazadores‘ debut. The sentiment seems fitting, if only because Hunter and his band (William Taylor on guitar, Seth Barden on bass, Paul Fisher on drums, and Charles Cleaver on keys) have spent the little more than a year since that release chasing down the dream. The buys have managed to drum up goodwill and comparisons to The Boss all through and beyond the triangle thus far, but can the lead hunter, answer our fearsome questions? See for yourself.

Gimme Five! Mark Holland of Jennyanykind

After 10+ years as a band, Jennyanykind called quits on their ramshackle Americana in 2003. The core of the group, brothers Michael and Mark Holland, turned to new interests.  For Mark that meant trading his drums for guitar and writing a batch of blue and roots-influenced tunes–for a time as Mark Holland Rhythm Force or thSongster, soon as a duo called Applesauce.

Just last year, Holland and his brother decided to hit the restart button on Jennyanykind. With everything moving apace, Holland’s having to pull creative double-time. But can this fearsome songwriter handle the five hardest questions in faux business? Find out for yourself after the jump.

Gimme Five! Daniel Lawrence and Kenny Jones of Supreme Fiction

It’s likely you’d expect a band with a song called “Zombie Bride” to be either scrapping at the dredges of metal or playing at some slap happy comedy schtick. Lucky then that Supreme Fiction has come along to shake things up. On the aforementioned song (as well as a wealth of others), this Chapel Hill brood creates music with a melodic punch, literary ear, and emotional bent.

The band (Daniel Lawrence, Kenny Jones, Kemp Watson, Bryan Reklis, and Tim Fenwick) will celebrate the release of their newest record, Berliners, on Thursday, September 29th.  But first, can a few of their own, handle this five question throw down? Find out for yourself after the jump.

Gimme Five! Miles Andrews of Big Fat Gap

In Graham County near the Tennessee border is one of the few remaining stands of old growth virgin forest.  That’s the Big Fat Gap that this revolving troupe of bluegrass musicians took it’s name. Like the forest, Miles Andrews and his compatriots grow from old roots–old time songs and sounds on acoustic instruments.  What started as a pickin’ circle of friends has grown into an important sustaining force for the local acoustic scene in the area.

They’ve spent years building and sustaining a reputation for their musicianship, but can one of their own handle the Gimme Five treatment? Find out for yourself after the jump.
